Crosstrek's are rated to tow 1,500lbs. I regularly tow a 5x8 aluminum utility trailer (300lbs empty) and 17' sailboat (500lbs) with my 2016 5 speed without any issues. That being said though, I only tow a few miles at a time, I'd be apprehensive about towing a few thousand miles, especially if there are large changes in elevation.
