Mar 4, 2011 · 502 MPI upgrade results. I just got this off the dyno a couple days ago and think this is a great little package for the 502. The cam is from Bob Madara, the tune is from Mark Boos. Stock 502mpi with the intake dividers cut down and a bit of porting, stainless marine exhaust, run on the dyno with all accessories, wet exhaust through GGB mufflers.The problems with major cracking has been in the liner built boats. The stringer built boats such as the 25 have been fine. The problems you have heard on the 2006 and prior boats have been in the 23, 30 and a few 20/202s. Young Performance. Are you referring to the 454 Mag MPI (385 hp) vs the 7.4 Mpi (310hp)? If so, the mag motor is a 4 bolt block with all forged bottom end and rectangle port heads. The 7.4 MPI has a 2 bolt block, cast crank, 3/8 rods, cast pistons, peanut oval port heads with smaller valves,etc. Not a good platform to modify.Their gear oil seems to do well and does well in Volvo's for a GL 5 spec.
